The Joiner History archive is located on the 2nd floor of the Sycamore Public Library.
History materials include handwritten documents and county records dating back to the
beginning of the county, also original Civil War papers, plat maps and poll books.
The collection includes early newspapers, photographs, cemetery records and miscellaneous
family files.
The History archive is named for Ralph Joiner, who, with his wife Bertha, saved so many
of the old county records. Over the years, many collections have been added to the
archives, making it a place for students, genealogists, authors and local organizations to
do research. Many of the records date back to the beginning of the county in 1837.
The Joiner Room is a cooperative effort of the DeKalb County Board, County Clerk's office,
Central Plant, Sycamore Library and county citizens concerned with safeguarding our history.
